Who We Are

We, Vadodara Innovation Council (profoundly referred as ‘VIC’) are proud to be the first and the only city-based innovation council in India and a part of National Innovation Council, Government of India, New Delhi. We, VIC are registered under section 25, as a non-profit organization under Indian Companies Act, 1956 to carry out activities to foster innovations in Vadodara region. Our mission is to make “Vadodara – an innovative city”.

While addressing people of Vadodara on “Building curious, questioning and innovative society”, Chairman of National Innovation Council Dr Sam Pitroda shared the idea of forming city-based innovation council in his visit on May 23, 2011. The idea itself was the genesis of VIC. City based industrialists, entrepreneurs, academicians and professionals conceptualize VIC and then the rest is history.

Since its inception, under the leadership of Dr. Madhu Mehta, VIC has taken up number of initiatives, to a name few, reaching to 40+ schools and 15000+ school students for programs on “how to be more curious, questioning and innovative”, showcasing innovators, Tod-Fod-Jod (TFJ) workshops for kids, TFJ Mentor workshop for teachers & principals and 25+ monthly seminars.

VIC has also provided support to Karnataka State Innovation Council and Rajasthan State Innovation Council for creating city based innovation councils and for Tod-Fod-Jod drive as advised by National Innovation Council. The Secretary of VIC has been inducted as an expert at National Innovation Council team.

VIC & Initial Activities

Curiosity and Innovation are cousins. We carry out various activities and support and lead initiatives to make “Vadodara as an Innovative City”. With help of well-wishers, volunteers and members; we are progressing by leaps and bounds.

Monthly Seminar:We organize a monthly seminar on one of the Sundays of a month. We invite an innovator or expert from diverse fields to showcase his/her product and offer the opportunity to interact with our team members. In over two years, we have showcased Godrej Chotukool, Happiness ICU, Kutch Sagar Setu, Social innovations, Multimodal Medical Information Retrieval System, New innovations in Robotics, Functional Electrical Bike, Commercialization of Innovation, Futuristic collaborative Transportation and Radiology to Imaging.

“Wows and wishes”” is one of our flagship programs, conducted at English medium as well as Gujarati medium schools in Vadodara region. Many government schools run by Nagar Prathmik Sikshan Samiti (managed by Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan) were also covered. It emphasizes on allowing the school children to imagine, observe, correlate and understand. It cultivates the curiosity amongst the children of standard 5th to 7th. X ray machine, Time machine, Parachute, Artificial blood, Multipurpose umbrella, CPU with inbuilt printer, Spectacles for blind, Robotic Army, A pen with projector are few examples of Wows and wishes collected by us. Selected student have interacted with Dr Sam Pitroda as a part of “Promoting Innovation Consciousness”. The schools willing to initiate ‘Wows and wishes’ are requested to contact us, we would guide them.

Tod Fod Jod is a unique program where students are promoted to open/dismantle the device, understand – observe –correlate and assemble it back to working condition. Vadodara is the second city in India to start Tod Fod Jod Centres. Ceiling Fan, Computer Processing Unit, Telephone, Clock, Bicycle and other such devices are made available and explained to students. A special series of sessions on ‘Aeromodelling’ were also conducted. Truly speaking, students simply love it. We welcome the schools, which are interested in establishing Tod Fod Jod Centre at their premises.

Code of Conducts

As an extension of a reputed national body National Innovation Council, all people associated with the VIC are expected to conduct themselves with dignity and interpersonal respect. Further, each individual is expected to share the larger purpose of the VIC and be conscious of rising above individual interests. Being a voluntary body with diverse opinions, it is expected that the members will attempt to create synergies of interests in order to enable smooth operations and avoid interpersonal issues.
